SENDING AND RECEIVING MAIL THROUGH ENEMY LINES
An interesting letter: "I have the honor to enclose a letter [not present] to the President [Jefferson Davis] from Mrs Dr Stephens -- living in the 'valley' of V[irgini]a below Winchester. She transmitted it to me with the request that I should send it to him. It reached me from the Enemy's lines by the hands of a scout. And I shall be happy if it requires an answer to send it through to her by the same channel..."
