JEFFERSON, THOMAS, 1743-1826, President. Letter signed ("Th:Jefferson") as Secretary of State, to the Governor of Pennsylvania (Thomas Mifflin), Philadelphia, 16 March 1793. 2 pages, 4to, 233 x 195mm. (9 1/4 x 7 5/8 in.), the letter cleanly separated along two horizontal folds (repairable).
JEFFERSON TRANSMITS ACTS OF THE SECOND CONGRESS
Secretary Jefferson forwards more than twenty official enactments of the recently adjourned Second Congress (4 March 1791-3 March 1793), including a number of judicial or economic significance: "I have the honor to send you herewith enclosed [not present] two copies duly authenticated of 'an Act to promote the progress of useful arts &c'...also of 'an Act for repealing the several impost laws of the United States, so far as they may be deemed to impose a duty on useful beasts imported for breed';...also of 'an Act making appropriations for the support of Government for the year 1793'; also of 'An Act to regulate trade and intercouse with the Indian Tribes';...also of 'An Act making an appropriation for defraying the expense of a treaty with the Indians north west of the Ohio';...also...an Act in addition to the Act, entitled 'An Act to establish the judicial Courts of the United States'..."
