Bellini recommends the French theorist and composer Antoine Elwart to Florimo and asks him to introduce Elwart to Zingarelli and other distinguished musicians while he is in Naples. Francesco Florimo (1800-1888), a distinguished musicologist and librarian at the Naples Conservatory, devoted his long career to preserving and glorifying the musical tradition of Naples. He was devoted to Bellini, with whom he had studied at the Conservatory, and is renowned for his writings about the composer. Antoine Elwart (1808-1877) won the Prix de Rome in 1834 and during his visit to Italy composed an "Omaggio alla memoria di Vincenzo Bellini," performed in 1835.
