ROSSINI INVITES A DIVA TO PERFORM
On behalf of the Vicomte de la Rochefoucauld, Rossini asks Madam Boulanger to perform the "Trio en Re de la Dame blanche" at a soire the following Monday to be held at the house of the "Ministre de la maison du Roi." At this date Rossini was living in Paris, directing the Thatre-Italien and learning French language in order to compose operas in French for the Academie Royale de Musique. An honorary post had been created for him as "premier compositeur du roi" and "inspecteur genral du chant en France." The work referred to, La Dame blanche by Boieldieu, had first been performed at the Opra Comique in December 1825. It is likely that the recipient was the mezzo-soprano Marie-Julie Boulanger, ne Hallinger (1786-1850).
