(18 1/8 x 15 1/4 in.), PRINTED ON FINE PARCHMENT, elaborately engraved, white paper Great Seal of the United States, bold heading at top "President of the United States of America," above which an American Eagle rests upon a wave dashed rock, at bottom a large vignette of a scene with mermaids, Neptune and his trident and ships under sail, with another vignette of crossed flags, cannon and other military paraphernalia at the bottom, with small legend "Bawdon, Wright & Hatch...New York," accomplished in manuscript. Fine. A RARE NAVAL APPOINTMENT MADE DURING THE MEXICAN-AMERICAN WAR. President Polk appoints Abram Harrel a Lieutenant in the Navy.
