WYTHE, GEORGE, 1726-1806, Signer of the Declaration of Independence (Virginia). Autograph note signed ("G. Wythe") to Alexander Donald, "Merchant, Richmond"; Williamsburgh, 29 March 1790. 1 page, 4to, 234 x 187mm. (9 3/16 x 7 3/8 in.), integral blank, two tears (not affecting text). WYTHE AND HIS TOBACCO CROP. Wythe, a Virginia jurist with whom Thomas Jefferson studied law, inherited a large estate and enjoyed a brilliant legal career, served in the Continental Congress from 1775, and is credited with the design for Virginia's state seal with its famous motto "Sic semper tyrannis." Here, he pens a brief note in his very elegant hand: "I wish to know, my good sir, the price allowed for the Tobacco which you bought of me..."
