A PAIR OF GEORGE II WALNUT SIDE CHAIRS
second quarter 18th century
Each arched back with scroll cresting over a solid vase-shaped splat flanked by ruffled scrolls, the bowed drop-in seat upholstered in rose floral cotton, on cabriole legs headed by lion masks and scrolled acanthus continuing to husk pendants with hairy paw feet, splats replaced, seat frames replaced, some replacements to brackets (2)

Lot Essay

The chairs are part of a larger set which once belonged to Percival Griffiths. One from the set is illustrated in R. Edwards, The Dictionary of English Furniture, vol. This illustrated chair and its pair are currently in a private collection.
