A GEORGE III SILVER SWEETMEAT-BASKET, TWO PAIRS OF SUGAR-TONGS AND FOUR MOTE SPOONS, maker's mark of Hester Bateman, navette form basket on oval base, center engraved with wreath enclosed initials, the sides twice pierced with urns and paterae linked by engraved floral festoons, with swing handle, with beaded moldings--1788--6¾in. (17.1cm.) long, the two pairs of sugar-tongs bright-cut engraved--part marked 1784, the other pair initialled--part maker's mark and lion passant only, the bowls of the mote spoons variously pierced, with pointed ends--maker's mark and lion passant, together with, the following altered, bearing marks-- a caddy spoon with shell bowl, initialled, and an oval tea caddy, with slip on short cap--Hester Bateman, 1783 and 1789--3¼in.
