WARD FORWARDS A LETTER ON JOHN JAY'S DIPLOMACY. "...the people in general of this part of the country put entire confidence in the wisdom of Congress & highly approve the conduct of the gentlemen from New England; and it is my opinion the sending [of] Mr. Jay to Europe was a fortunate circumstance, for Congress must convince the people of New England, that everything has been done consistent with their honor & interest, as a nation, to preserve peace before they will be ready to engage in war..."
