After a French model, each on shaped circular base with band of ovolo and paterae with shells at intervals, rising to a knopped, tapering stem on calyx of waterleaves and with panels of shell and coin moulding, the campana form socket with paterae and flutes, the removable circular nozzles with ovolo rim, the base engraved with an earl's coronet and a crest, marked on bases and nozzles, the bases stamped STORR & MORTIMER

Lot Essay

A set of four candlesticks of this model by Paul Crespin was sold in these Rooms, April 17, 1996, lot 175. These in turn were copies of examples made by the Paris silversmith Nicolas Outrebon in the 1730s, of which a set of four, made by Outrebon for John, 3rd Earl of Bute (1713-1792), were sold from the Bute Collection, Christie's, London, July 3, 1996, lot 93.
