The arms are those of Howard quarterly with those of Brotherton, Warren and Fitzalan and impaling those of Leveson-Gower, as borne by Henry Charles Howard, 13th Duke of Norfolk (1791-1856), who married Lady Charlotte Leveson-Gower, eldest daughter of George Granville, 1st Duke of Sutherland, in 1814. Henry Howard's father succeeded to the dukedom in 1815 whereupon he, as heir, assumed the title Earl of Arundel and Surrey. On his father's death in 1842 he succeeded to the dukedom and in 1848 was created a Knight of the Garter.
