Lot Essay

The form of these candlesticks, based on late 17th century models, was revived in the workshops of Thomas Heming. A pair of silver-gilt examples of 1770 from Heming's workshop was sold in these Rooms April 11, 1995, lot 362, while another pair of 1766 was sold from the Bute Collection, Christie's, London, July 3, 1996, lot 77.
