Each vase form, on spreading circular gadrooned foot, the body and cover with fluted stylized shells and leaves, the shoulder with four open handles joined by ruffled shells, the body engraved with a coat-of-arms and motto within rococo cartouche, the cover engraved with a crest, marked under base and on one cover

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Edgcumbe, with a crescent denoting a second son.

Condiment vases by Paul de Lamerie are rare. A set of three similar vases with ladles was sold from the collection of J. Pierpont Morgan, Christie's, New York, October 26, 1982, lot 34, while a further pair of 1742 is also recorded.
