Lot Essay

The Vesta, a screw steamship built by New York Ship Building Company, was owned by Standard Oil Company and its homeport was New York. Two sketches of the Vesta, one dated 1893 and the other 1914, are located in The Mariner's Museum, Newport News, Virginia. An additional oil painting, dated 1917, is listed in Harold Sniffen's Antonio Jacobsen: The Checklist (New York, 1984) p.294-295.
