The rectangular hinged lid with central inlaid figured maple oval headed at each corner by inlaid quarter-fans and enclosed by figured maple banded edges above a conforming case with banded edges, inlaid quarter-fans and centering in front crossed and over-lapping inlaid vines, the interior partially baize-lined and fitted for compartments, the compartments presently missing; together with a short stand
12in. high, 17½in. wide, 13¾in. deep

Lot Essay

The crossed vine inlay on this box is a motif commonly found on Federal furniture from Providence. This inlay was created by cutting and inlaying each piece individually.
