Lot Essay

Thomas Daft moved to Philadelphia from London in 1775 and later to New York, where he reportedly worked from 1786-1790. This clock, with its engraved dial, decorative mounts, and dome-topped case, is reminiscent of English examples and given his origins, it is not unlikely that Daft imported cases and works from London. A similar clock was advertised by Ginsburg & Levy in Antiques, June 1969, p.743.
