R.E. Lee, Genl Commg, (Robert E. Lee, CSA General and later Commander of the Army of Northern Virginia), one page ALS, Sept. 27, 1861 war-date military field letter to 'Gen. Jno B. Floyd, Commander at ? Bluff', headed 'Camp on Sewalls Mt. (Va. now W. Va.)', contents relate sending Floyd '...two prisoners of war, belonging to the 11th Ohio regt. in Cox's command, captured yesterday by our pickets', 7 x 9" on pale blue-lined stationery, usual light file folds barely affecting signature, adhesive residue marks along extreme edges of the reverse of the letter (visible only very slightly on the face), otherwise very fine, a rare R.E. Lee field letter written just after Lee's very first command of the War in what is now part of West Virginia photo
