The shell jewelry of Marguerite Stix draws upon her background as a sculptor and painter, combining three-dimentional forms and unique color schemes utilizing pearls and colored gemstones to create beautiful jewels. She and her husband personally collected these rare shells while traveling throughout the Pacific. She regarded her shells as works of art and, like the Renaissance goldsmith, often reinforced the edges with various metals, both for protection as well as for decorative purposes. (5)
