The Boivin menagerie is comprised of many different species of the animal kingdom, including the lion, king of the jungle. Introduced in 1956, the first lion was an oxidized silver and gold pendant with diamonds. The theme evolved into many variations including a sphinx with yellow and brown diamonds and an emerald mane; a 'rug' clip with yellow diamonds and black onyx; and a ring with two cats facing each other with a diamond in between. The illustrated brooch/pendant is part of this series and features a yellow and near colorless diamond body and an emerald mane and tail tip. The lion is reclining on its side in a natural pose. When placed on a flat surface, the lion seems at rest but, when worn, its body falls gracefully.
