New and different are two terms that characterize the jewlery designs of Rachelle Epstein. A degree in fine art from Yale University provided her with a basis for assimilating the work of the past into her own distinctive style. She synthesizes the essence of prior periods but never copies directly from any source. On the pendant brooch and ear pendants, bold forms are juxtaposed with unique color combinations. The rounded shape of the cabochon sapphire on the brooch is reiterated in the turquoise while the muted blue tones of one stone softens the other. Pink diamonds, set in the antique manner of mounting in silver, accent the turquoise. On the ear pendants, the theme of shapes and colors is evident in the round buttons and oval drop natural pearls and the use of brown and white colors. Epstein created a series of pink diamond jewelry; the first design, a gold cuff with the words "Think Pink" spelled out on the gems. These ear pendants appeared in an article by Penny Proddow and Marion Fasel, "The Pink of Perfection", in the February 1994 issue of Art & Antiques. This jewelry is marked with her trade name, R.E./SHELLE.
