The circular enamelled dial with arabic numerals surmounted by a seated blackamoor huntress representing Africa wearing a plumed skirt, holding a bow, a dog at her side and a turtle at her feet, on an incurving beaded plinth carved with playing putti and fruit garlands suspended from Medusa masks, on shaped tapering feet, fitted with electrical movement

Lot Essay

The design for this clock is based on a well known type called La Sauvage first conceived by the French bronzier and clock-maker Jean Simon Deverberie or De Verberie, (see Tardy La Pendule Française, vol. 2, p. 357, fig. 1.1). A similar clock by De Verberie is illustrated op.cit., p. 357, fig. 3.
