The finely carved detailing of these fauteuils is modelled on the celebrated suite of seat furniture ordered from Georges Jacob in 1787 for the Salon des Jeux at the château de Saint-Cloud (see P.Verlet,Le Mobilier Royal Français, 1994, vol.III, pp.239-243, no.38). One of the fauteuils from this suite is now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
