The boîtes colonnes case with inverted breakfront cornices, with four spherical finials and on bun feet, engraved overall with foliate scrolls against a hatched ground, with conforming mask to the circular white enamel Roman dial with blued steel moon hands, signed Hry. Marc Paris, the foliate engraved gilt lever platform with bimetallic balance, shuttered winding holes to the solid rear door, with outside countwheel strike on bell to the backplate stamped for Hy. Marc Paris and numbered 23771

Lot Essay

Although many clocks exist signed Marc it is unclear whether he was a maker or a retailer. According to Allix, op. cit., p.445, the latter is most likely; he suggests that Japy Frères may have made many Marc clocks.
