The foliate engraved gorge case with conforming mask to the circular white enamel Roman dial with Arabic five minutes and blued steel moon hands, with subsidiary enamel dials below for for day/date/alarm, the silvered lever platfrom with cut-bimetallic balance, strike/repeat/alarm on two gongs via three hammers to the backplate stamped RC and 455, with three position strike selection lever to the underside; leather travelling case

Richard, C.A. et Cie., Paris. The business was established in Paris in 1848 as Lemaître & Bergmann. A London branch was opened in 1857 and in 1867 this became Richard & Co. of 24 Cannon Street. Their trademark is R and C with an entwined snake between. The stamp R & Co without this trademark was used for clocks retailed, but not manufactured by the company.
