The 10in. sq. dial with silvered chapter ring having blued steel hands, the matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring and calendar aperture, winged cherub foliate spandrels within a line-engraved border and signed at the base John Wise. Londini Fecit, the five ringed pillar movement with anchor escapement and inside countwheel strike on bell, the rising hood with spoon-and-clip locking system, foliate pierced wood frieze sound fret beneath a foliate-carved cresting surmounted by a giltwood ball finial, the barley-twist columns flanking glazed side panels, the rectangular trunk door with later brass escutcheon, presentation label on the inside inscribed 1807, the convex moulded plinth on bun feet

John Wise Senior, 1625-1693, served his apprenticeship to Peter Closon through T. Dawson until 1646 whereupon he was made a Freeman in October. According to Loomes he lived in Warwick between 1653 and 1668 where he repaired the clocks of St. Nicholas and St. Mary's Church and at the latter his children wre baptized. He was made free again (?) in London in 1670 by redemption taking on ten apprentices including his four sons.
