AN INCISED CELADON EWER WITH COVER
koryo dynasty (12th century)
Resting on a flat base with upright, slightly flared walls rising to an inward slanting shoulder and upright, cylindrical neck ending in an everted lip, applied with a curved spout and loop handle, incised on the shoulder with a band of foliate scroll and with two lotus sprays, one opposite the spout and one to the left of the handle, covered overall by a bright green celadon glaze with random large crackle, the base unglazed; fitted with a circular cover with recessed well surrounding a bud-form knop and with rounded underside, incised around the knop with a floral whorl and along the perimeter with foliate scroll, glazed top and bottom with a rich kingfisher-blue celadon glaze, three spur marks on underside--5 5/8in. (14.4cm.) high, spout chipped, restoration to lid
