A SEVEN-SIDED BAMBOO BRUSHPOT

Formed of seven trunk-shaped lobes placed on a lobed wood plinth with flat base, each of the sides differently carved in high relief from the black-lacquered grounds with different auspicious symbols, including a panel of a carp leaping above waves, rocks and sun; bamboo; birds perched on flowering plum branches; butterflies, chrysanthemums and rock; deer, yo'i fungus and pine; cranes and palm; geese and lotus, all stained golden brown, the fluted interior of the brush holder colored medium brown--6 3/8in. (16.2cm.) high, 6in. (14.8cm.) diameter, age cracks
