Hu Baikryun was born in Jindo and studied painting with Mi San Hu from 1900 to 1905. He attended Kwang Sin University from 1905 to 1908 and also studied at the Ki Cho School in 1910. From 1912 to 1913 he attended Ritsumeikan University in Japan, and studied Chinese-style painting under Kumuro Suiun (1874-1945), an important late Nanga painter who worked in a rich, decorative manner.

In 1922 the artist won second prize at the first "Choson" art exhibition in Korea. He exhibited his work with that of Kim Eunho (1892-1979) at the Shin Se Kye Gallery in Seoul in 1932. During the years 1932 to 1970 he had regular one-person exhibitions in Seoul and was the recipient of the Ye Sul Won prize.
