AN INLAID LACQUER AND SILVER FILIGREE DISH

The silver filigree dish cast with twelve elaborate lappet panels radiating from a central inlaid laquer roundel and resting on three bracket supports, six of the lappets applied with a shaped gold lacquer panel inlaid in mother-of-pearl with birds and flowers or butterflies and flowers, each different from the other, and six alternating lappets decorated with narrower shaped panels enamelled with flowers, the central roundel inlaid in mother-of-pearl, coral, horn and colored ivory with a flowering cherry, hanging basket of flowers and a bird on a matching gold lacquer ground, on the underside of the dish the backs of the gold lacquer panels nashiji and the backs of the enamelled panels silver, signature etched into an oblong mother-of-pearl cartouche applied to the nashiji back of the central roundel--13¼in. (33.5cm.) diameter, 1 7/8in. (5cm.) high
