A LARGE PORCELAIN VASE
meiji period (late 19th century), signed yugyoku-en toju sei

Of ovoid form with wide, flared mouth decorated in underglaze-blue and enamels of black, lavender, green, pale yellow and pink with two birds perched on thick branches of pine, the body of the vase glazed milk-white and a chysanthemum medallion enamelled in gilt on one side of the neck, now partially rubbed away--19in. (48.3cm.) high
