Lot Essay

Primarily known as a Japanese-style (Nihonga) landscape painter, Sakai was a native of Fujishima Prefecture. He lived in Tokyo and was a member of the Inten (Japan Art Institute) and also exhibited his paintings with Nitten association artists. He won the Education Ministry's Prize for Fostering the Arts in 1952.
