Lot Essay

This portrait of Dora Maar is one of only 54 impressions with the black plate printed in blue. The total edition of 80 was printed by Lacourière, probably in 1942, but not released during the artist's lifetime. Two impressions of Tete de Femme No. 1 were given to the Picasso Museum and the others were distributed by the artist's heirs.
