Cassandre's seminal poster advertising the 1935 voyage of the French Line's S.S. "Normandie" is a masterpiece of 1930s' graphic design. Inspired by the aesthetics of both European abstract painting and American kinetic art, Cassandre captures the overwhelming size and power of the "Normandie" as it surges forward out of its two-dimensional plain, dwarfing the flock of gulls in its path. The poster was issued with three different texts at the bottom. This one, emphasizing the New York leg of the journey, is arguably the rarest of the three.
