Autograph manuscript signed ("Pablo Neruda"), a fair copy of "Un Canto para Bolivar" ("Padre nuestro que estás en la tierra..."), [Mexico], the poem dated at end 24 July 1941. 5 pages, 4to, written in ink on rectos only, first page with a decorative capital "P" illuminated in red and green inks, sections of verse separated by small hand-colored leaves, sewn on broad red-white-and-blue silk ribbon within decorative hand-colored covers, front cover with calligraphic title in red, green, blue, purple and brown inks, flanked by leafing branches in brown and green inks, cartouche at bottom with date "Mexico, Sept. 1941," back cover with a single hand-colored leaf and legend: "Ejemplar unico y autographo," plain paper wrappers, the covers detached, minor marginal stains to covers, otherwise in good condition.

"EXEMPLAR UNICO Y AUTOGRAFO" OF NERUDA'S "UN CANTO POR BOLIVAR"

An attractive fair copy of one of the poet's better-known early works, carefully written out in a fluid hand and embellished with a decorated capital and calligraphic wrappers. The poem consists of irregular stanzas commencing: "Padre nuestro que estás en la tierra, en el agua, en el aire de todo nuestra extenso latitud silenciosa, todo lleve tu nombre, padre, en nuestro morada: tu apellido la caña levanta a la dulzura, el estaño Bolivar tiene un fulgor Bolivar..." The lavish manuscript was created by the poet for a charity raffle and was presented to the winner (the present owner) by Neruda.
