Third edition, from the 1587 French edition of the Theatrum orbis terrarum. The map is an improved re-engraving of the American map of the earlier editions of the Theatrum (the second edition of the plate, a nearly identical re-engraving of the first, was used in the Plantin editions of the Theatrum published from 1579 through 1584), with the bulge removed from the southwest coast of South America, more detailed place names for the west coast of North and South America, and with an inlet probably indicating Chesapeake Bay that did not figure on the earlier maps.
