Included among the papers is Edward Antill's important "Essay on the cultivation of the vine, and the making and preserving of wine, suited to the different climates in North America." The volume contains many important papers in connection with the transit of Venus. The American achievement in observing the transit of Venus and in making this work known to European scientists was the major factor in gaining a new recognition for American Science.
