MEYER, ÉDOUARD and A. DE MONTMÉJÀ. Traité des Opérations qui se pratiquent sur l'oeil. Paris: H. Lauwereyns, 1871. 22 mounted albumen prints by Montméjà showing eye surgery; numerous woodcut illustrations in text engraved by Badoureau after Léveillé. 4to, contemporary half morocco gilt, t.e.g., others uncut; ex-library copy (Grosvenor Library) with bookplate. Very Rare. NUC locates only Yale (First fasc. only with 48 pp. and 3 plates), Harvard, and NLM.
Publication was announced in the Bibliographie de la France in 1868 (part 3, p. 59). This notice described the book as quarto with about 30 large plates "photographed during operations on a cadaver." It was to be complete in 4 fascicles issued by the end of 1868. There were apparently other versions issued by Lauweryns (one dated 1871) without the photographic plates and without mention of de Montméjà on title-page. In the preface to this edition, Meyer writes: "M. de Montméjà, qui, après sa collaboration avec M. le professeur Hardy, à la Clinique photographique de l'hôpital Saint-Louis, n'a plus à faire les preuves de son talent artistique, a mis à profit pour les planches qui accompagnent le texte son expérience acquise par des essais antérieurs et une connaissance approfondie des opérations sur les yeux." (Photo-Illustrated)
