An inexhaustible repertorium of all overseas products of the late 16th and of the 17th century used in medicine, technology and husbandry dealing with geology, botany, zoology, etc. The first part treats plants, animals, minerals, metals, and related products, and includes numerous chapters on American plants. The second part deals with stones, fossils, coins, tropical plants, shells, mythical creatures and monsters. The third part is devoted to physics and natural philosophy, and includes a description of Boyle's Air Pump, the "Valvula Boyleana," with illustration; acoustic and optical apparatus; Lana's Airship and suggestions for other aeronautical machines; a large chapter deals with the divining-rod, another with the load stone (or magnet), and among the machines are found a threshing machine. Two appendices in vol. 1 contain a list of 159 museums ("Kunst- und Naturalien-Kammern") known to exist at the time, including a section on American and Asian museums, and a separately titled compilation from George Eberhard Rumph on various Caribbean rarities, mostly botanical.
