Les peupliers sur l'Eure

At the turn of the century, Loiseau lived at Saint-Cyr-du-Vaudreuil near the confluence of the Seine and the Eure. Like Monet, he was inspired by the lines of tall poplar trees which ran along the banks of these rivers. The trees offered Loiseau a constantly changing subject as the light shone through the branches and reflected the trees in the flowing water. Just as Monet had painted a series of poplar paintings ten years earlier on the Epte, Loiseau worked on his own series, experimenting with the play of light on water.
