Lot Essay

This is the cover of a bowl. Leloup (1994, p.161 and no.99) attributes carvings with such a coiffure to the Wakara or the Douenza region. A complete bowl with a similar top showing a horseman is in the Bela Hein collection (Musée Dapper, 1994, p.70)
