Lot Essay

The sitter was a French diplomat who served as First Secretary at the French Embassy in Mexico during the years 1935-1938. An avid horseman, Rivera depicted his subject in the elegant riding clothes of the period, leading the viewer to imagine the relaxed and stylish way of life of those pre-war days.
