Many of the Northern canoes were made by the Haida and traded North to the areas that did not have the abundant large trees that are required for vessel manufacture. Haidas were considered the emminent canoe builders of the Northern regions and their vessels well designed, fast and elegant. It is likely that many of the Northern models were made by the Haida as well (Holm, 1996, p. 153).
