Lot Essay

The Yakutat canoe is characterized by its round, full body and triangular fins at each ends. The full body allowed for maximum storage capacity. The bow fin protudes slightly farther than the prow, perhaps to protect the hull from ice, and the stern fin is cut almost vertically (Durham, 1960, p. 46).
