A KWAKIUTL THUNDERBIRD MASK
RED CEDAR
With projecting hooked beak, incised crescent nostrils, bottom section of the beak carved separately and attached by leather strips and nails, circular eyes, a braid of cedar bark along the crown attached with nails, tufts of cedar bark attached at the crown and below the beak, details painted in yellow, green, black, white and red, distinct adze markings in the interior, new replacements at both sides

This mask was worn in the Kwakiutl Winter ceremony during several different occasions or to "dramatize the power acquired by ancestors in adventurous contact with supernatural beings (Holm, 1983, p.36)."
