Lot Essay

"Feathered baskets of this type have been found in archaeological and ethnological contexts in the Great Basin and Mexico, as well as in California. So, the technique is very old, dating back at least to the Classic Period of basket making. Feathered baskets were made as gifts or as sacrifices to honor the memory of a beloved deceased person (Turnbaugh and Turnbaugh, 1986, p. 188)."
