Lot Essay

In 1831-2, John Drummond commissioned Ferneley to paint his portrait along with his groom and two horses (Drummond Sale, Christie's London, March 28, 1947, lot 45, illustrated), a portrait of a spaniel, and this picture.

In the Ferneley account book this picture is listed as Hunt Scurry with Portraits. This painting depicts Sir Harry Goodricke, Sir Oswald Deston, Maxie on Cognac, Lady Victoria Drummond, the artist in a white coat going through the gate, Lord Aylesford, Andrew Drummond, Dick Burton, and Robin, the huntsman.
