Foaled in 1822 by Whisker out of Manuella, Memnon was bred and owned by Mr. Richard Watt.
Having won the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster in 1824, the following year, Memnon won the St. Leger with William Scott up. He was sold to Lord Darlington for +3,500 and won the Ascot Gold Cup in 1827, before being retired to stud.
