Lot Essay

The design for this "platform lounging unit" was originally sketched for the clients in 1971 and accompanies the lot. In 1975, Nakashima modified the design, adding a backrest and platform serving as a table. A copy of a sketch by Nakashima and note to his clients regarding the design for the backrest of the lounging unit, dated March 17, 1975 also accompanies this lot.
The fabric used on the lounging unit, as well as some of the conoid cushion chairs in this commission, was handwoven by Parrott of Santa Fe.
