A collection of four letters from W.C. Fields, three to Carlotta Monti (Ms. C. Douglas), one to Lockwood Marshall; all dated between 1937 and 1940. In referring to Ms. Monti's audition for You Can't Cheat An Honest Man produced by Lester Cowan (on Lester Cowan's stationery), Mr. Fields advises "When you give your audition By all means-after your Spanish number give a quick imitation of Mae West"; in 1940 he requests, "...please go to Brentano's Book Store on Fifth Avenue in the Forties I think and get me a copy of "The Lord Of San Simeon", and "I have cut down considerably on John Barleycorn and it is playing havoc with my nerves."; all letters include original envelopes and signed with various names, "Bill", "Fieldsie Old Boy", "Nosey Parker Fields" and "The Great Man."
