Property from the Estate of LANA TURNER
Lana Turner was one of the most celebrated screen beauties of her time. The actress defined the glamorous blond look of World War II and throughout the 1940s; known as "The Sweater Girl", she was a favorite pin-up for America's soldiers in the war. Most certainly the Queen of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studio lot, her career spanned an impressive thirty-three years and forty-seven pictures. She epitomized a kind of wanton allure and peerless glamour. Lana Turner was the sort of star whose turbulent personal life rivalled, mirrored and at times surpassed, the melodramatic movies that were her trademark. It has been said that she filled the sex-goddess role left vacant by Jean Harlow's death in 1936, and then passed it on to Marilyn Monroe at the start of the 1950s. The actress distinguished herself by rising out of the early Hollywood studio system and becoming a true "Movie Star", a title she never rescinded. She will always be part of the dreamy, magical era known as "Golden Hollywood."
